Costa Vineyards 2004 Pinot Noir Label

2004 was a perfect growing season. Favorable weather produced intense flavor and great balance in our fruit; you can taste the grape in this wine. Cherry and blackberry are again the predominate flavors with a hint of peppering spice.

COSTA ~ A SPECIAL VINEYARD

If one were to search the world for the ideal spot to grow pinot noir grapes Comptche, California would be the place. The country air and water in Comptche is clean and unspoiled. Located in the coastal mountains of Mendocino County, Costa Vineyards is approximately 13 miles east of the village of Mendocino and the Pacific Ocean.

Costa Vineyards is a mountain vineyard on a gentle south slope. If you look at our label you will notice the surviving apple tree from the old orchard that used to be here. It seemed happy so we just left it where it was.

The rows of our vineyard are laid out almost exactly perpendicular to the track of the sun so vines are evenly bathed in warm sunlight from dawn to dusk. Each night the coastal fog that blankets Costa Vineyards at sundown completes our perfect growing day.

Soil is one of the most important features of a vineyard, and Costa Vineyards' soil is just right. Our soil is not too deep, not too rich, and sits on a hillside of fractured rock for good drainage. Grapes that have it too good don't make good wines. As in all things moderation is a good thing where nutrients are concerned.

At Costa Vineyards we live in our vineyard, and we farm with relentless attention to detail. At Costa Vineyards we believe great wine is grown, not made.
